OPEN POSITIONS

Weather Station Field Engineer

WeatherFlow Networks, Inc is looking to hire a full-time field service engineer (FSE) to help install and maintain equipment in its 500+ weather station mesonet. WeatherFlow’s mesonet is located throughout the coastal regions of the continental United States with a small number of stations located in Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and France.

Description:

The major duty of a field service engineer entails the installation and repair of weather stations. FSE’s typically alternate one week in the field, one week in the office. Aspects of this job can be physically demanding, requiring one to climb various structures such as U.S. Coast Guard navigation aids, 30’ concrete poles, and cell towers. All FSE’s receive OSHA tower climbing instruction, rescue training, and safety certification. Many weather stations are either on or over water and require working from small craft. Some stations require walking moderate distances on uneven surfaces. A majority of the work is done with hand and small power tools and a certain amount of ingenuity may be required to complete tasks.

When not in the field, FSE’s prepare and perform logistics for upcoming maintenance trips. These logistics include – but are not limited to – testing, packing, and shipping equipment; coordinating visits with our site hosts; testing and calibrating inventory; and assembling and debugging weather station components.

FSE’s must be organized and responsible while working independently; comfortable working with hand and small power tools; have a basic knowledge of DC electric circuits and their debugging; and be unflappable in the face of sudden tasking changes due to weather, boat availability, delayed shipments, missing boxes, etc. A bachelor’s degree in science or engineering is preferred, but we will consider other strong candidates.

Requirements

  • Must relocate to the Boston Metro region (a sane commute to Bolton, Massachusetts)
  • Must travel 50-60% of the time
  • Must work in inclement weather as necessary
  • Must be comfortable working hands-free at height
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs at a time without problems
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Must have a Passport or the ability to obtain one
  • Must have no legal issues working in Canada, Mexico, or Europe
  • Must be able to pass military review to access U.S. Coast Guard and Naval bases
    (formal security clearance not necessary)
  • Must be comfortable working in the marine environment, especially off of small crafts

Salary:

$54k/yr – $62k/yr, full-time salaried position

Benefits:

  • Flexible Time Off (FTO) policy
  • Paid Sick Time & Safe Time
  • Medical Insurance
  • Vision & Dental Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
